Dr. Ingrid Balsa, DVM, M Ed, Diplomate ACVS, is a board-certified surgeon in Tucson, Arizona.
Dr. Ingrid Balsa grew up in Tucson and received her BS and MEd from the University of Arizona. She was a public-school teacher for several years in the Catalina Foothills School District prior to becoming a veterinarian. In 2008 she traded the desert for the Land of 10,000 Lakes (and ice) and graduated from the University of Minnesota College of Veterinary Medicine in 2012.
Following her DVM she completed a small animal medicine and surgery rotating internship at North Carolina State University and her residency in Small Animal Surgery at the University of California-Davis. Since obtaining diplomate status in the American College of Veterinary Surgery (ACVS) in 2017, she has worked as a faculty member at the University of California, Davis and Oregon State University. Due to her love of minimally-invasive surgery and wanting to optimize care for her patients she completed the ACVS Fellowship in Minimally Invasive Surgery (small animal - soft tissue) in 2020.
Dr. Balsa has a strong interest in canine and feline congenital abnormalities, minimally invasive surgery, and surgical oncology. In 2026 she moved back to Tucson, AZ to start a non-profit, Companion Animal Care Team & Urban Sanctuary (CACTUS) to provide services in areas of Southern Arizona without consistent veterinary care. Between her time at CACTUS and VSCoT she can fulfill her values of public service and practice surgery at the highest level of specialty care.
